This was a gift for my dad's fiftieth birthday - he's an avid fisherman, so one day I had him list all of the fish he had caught and any that he wished he had caught but hadn't (tarpon and permit, in grey).

I drew each fish individually on its own half of A4 size paper with Stabilo point 88 pens (whose precision and flow I love). I knew I'd be scaling them down to about a quarter size, so there was a lot of room for messiness/error - the Brook Trout in particular I tried like five different color schemes on, and the result is a bit of a mishmash. Not needing to be too precise meant I could do a few fish on my subway commute every morning using a paper and clipboard - each one took about 5-10 minutes. The captions are using a Pentel Pocketbrush pen.

Below are photos of the process of organizing the fish and deciding the order. Drawing the fish took 3-4 weeks, laying it out took a Saturday afternoon. I think he liked it.
